1.Function of the Compressor Exhaust Temperature Sensor

The compressor exhaust temperature sensor is an indispensable monitoring component in industrial equipment, mainly used to detect the temperature at the compressor exhaust port in real time to ensure the safe operation of the equipment. Its main functions include:

  • Prevent the equipment from overheating and getting damaged

Long-term operation of the compressor may cause the exhaust temperature to be too high, damaging the lubricating oil, seals and even mechanical components. The Temperature Sensor can alarm in time to prevent equipment failure.

  • Optimize operational efficiency

By monitoring the exhaust temperature, the control system can automatically adjust the cooling system or load to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

  • Fault early warning and diagnosis

Abnormal temperature rise may indicate refrigerant leakage, condenser blockage or poor lubrication. Sensors can help operation and maintenance personnel quickly locate the problem.

2.Working Principle of the Compressor Exhaust Temperature Sensor

At present, the mainstream exhaust Temperature Sensors are mainly divided into thermocouple type, thermal resistance type and semiconductor type. Their working principles are as follows:

  • Thermocouple type sensor (suitable for high-temperature environments)

Principle: Based on the Seebeck effect, two different metals (such as K-type nickel-chromium-nickel-silicon) generate a tiny voltage (mV level) at high temperatures, and the temperature is calculated by measuring the voltage.

Features: High-temperature resistant (up to over 1000℃), but requires cold end compensation (reference end temperature correction).

  • Thermal resistance type sensors (such as PT100, high-precision measurement)

Principle: Utilizing the characteristic that the resistance value of platinum resistance (PT100) varies with temperature (100Ω at 0℃, with a temperature coefficient of 0.385Ω/℃).

Features: High precision (±0.1℃), suitable for medium and low-temperature measurement (-200 to 600℃), and requires three-wire connection to reduce errors.

  • Semiconductor sensor (low-cost solution)

Principle: By integrating a temperature chip (such as DS18B20) to output digital signals, the temperature value can be directly read.

Features: Fast response and low cost, but the temperature resistance range is relatively narrow (usually < 150℃).

3.Application Scenarios of Compressor Exhaust Temperature Sensor

  • Refrigeration and air conditioning systems

Prevent the refrigeration oil from carbonizing due to high temperatures and ensure the stable operation of the refrigeration system (for example, the R410A system is usually set with a protection temperature of ≤150℃).

  • Air compressor (screw type/piston type)

Monitor the exhaust temperature to prevent carbon deposits (the risk increases when the temperature exceeds 200℃) and extend the service life of the equipment.

  • Industrial process compressor

In industries such as chemical engineering and petroleum, high temperatures may cause the medium to decompose, and the exhaust temperature must be strictly controlled.

4.How to Choose the Right Exhaust Temperature Sensor?

Selection suggestion

In high-temperature environments (such as industrial compressors), thermocouples are preferred

Precision temperature control (such as refrigeration systems) → PT100 thermal resistance is recommended

Low cost, fast response to demands → Optional semiconductor sensors

5.Common Faults and Solutions

✅ Question 1: The sensor shows an abnormal increase in temperature, but the actual temperature is normal

Possible causes: Thermocouple signal interference or oxidation of the terminal blocks

Solution: Check the grounding and replace the anti-interference shielded cable

✅ Question 2: The temperature reading is unstable and shows drift

Possible cause: The thermal resistance wire is affected by the environment

Solution: Switch to a three-wire or four-wire wiring system

6.Summary

The compressor exhaust temperature sensor is a key component for ensuring the safe operation of equipment. By monitoring the exhaust temperature in real time, it can effectively prevent overheating faults, optimize energy efficiency and extend the service life of the equipment. Depending on different application scenarios, thermocouples, thermal resistors or semiconductor sensors can be selected, and regular maintenance should be carried out to ensure measurement accuracy.
